Angus is an area that seems to get missed out on the holiday trail,
but it is a lovely county and there are numerous places of interest to visit.
The most well known feature of the area is the fairytale Glamis Castle, famous for being the childhood home of the late Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. A whole day may be spent there and taking in the Folk Museum in Glamis village at the same time.
James Barrie of Peter Pan fame was born in Kirriemuir where there is a small but fascinating museum.
The House of Dun near Montrose built by William Adam in 1730 can be followed by a visit to the Montrose Basin Wildlife Reserve where a wealth of waterfowl may be viewed. This is at its best at low tide.
Angus has a number of carved Pictish Stones – four being only
three miles away in Aberlemno. These are on the road to Pictavia which
is a museum devoted to the Picts and their history. This is housed at
the Brechin Visitor Centre on the outskirts of the town.
The city of Dundee is home to the ship Discovery as well as museums including the fascinating Verdant Works which tells the history of the jute industry for which the city is famous.
The Angus Glens are great areas for walking, but a short walk up the hill behind the farm gives tremendous views of the surrounding area. Ponies run with Red Deer, Cattle and Sheep on the farm.
There are swimming pools in Forfar, Montrose and Dundee. Forfar also has a Leisure Centre.
Beaches and several Golf courses are all within easy reach.
